A toe amputation changes your perspective as a diabetic. I worry about every little nick and scrape I get these days. Recently I dropped something on my remaining big toe and I'm getting the subsequent purple toenail.
When it first started changing color, I had a day or two of panic. There was pain and a little redness. I couldn't exactly remember when or what I did to my toe.
I've tried to make it my standard to live life normally and I had to give myself a talk because this is a normal thing that happens to diabetics and non-diabetics alike.
I kept a close eye on my blood sugar and realized it was staying well within my normal range. I had no fever. I know that if my blood sugar is good my body is not fighting infection. You would not believe how wacky it was when I was going through the staph infection that led to my toe amputation.
I've been applying lavender essential oil directly on my toenail. It is helping the bruising to fade. So, I'm feeling better about the whole thing. There is no pain.
I didn't go to the doctor with this although I kept the option open. If it would have stayed red and painful I would have taken the better safe than sorry route. I've been sorry once. Toe amputation is not fun.
Please take this as a reminder to check your feet everyday. Keep them soft. Watch for any changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please go visit your doctor.
Thank you for reading.
This is the brand of lavender essential oil that I use personally.
