The
Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar is not for me and I will tell you why.
This morning I tried one for breakfast. It was dark chocolate and delicious. I thought to myself that I hoped my body liked this because it really appeased my sweet tooth.
According
to the packaging, I was eating something
completely nutritious well and within my carb range.
Wrong.
Noon
rolls around and my blood sugar has spiked to 238! I began my morning at 120. It didn’t take me long to narrow down the cause
because the Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar was all I had eaten all morning.
I
rechecked the label just to be sure I hadn’t misread the carb count.
Here
are the nutritional facts from the package:
Total
Fat 6 grams
Cholesterol <
5 milligrams
Sodium 190 milligrams
Potassium 160 milligrams
Total
Carbs 22 grams
Protein 12 grams
Sounds
healthy, right?
I
checked the ingredients and there were no sugar alcohols lurking. Of the total carb count there were 14 grams
of sugar. Still, that should not have
been enough to create the spike I got.
It’s
a mystery to me. The Zone Perfect Nutrition
Bar should have been a great nutritional find, but apparently they are not for
me. Some ingredient in them sent me
wacky.
My
point is that even if you read the labels and trust what you read, there is
some packaging that can be deceptive. I
would have thought that a “protein bar” would have been a good diabetic choice.
I
was wrong.
Be
careful if you try the Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar and be sure to test your
blood sugar after having one. I know
each diabetic reacts differently to different foods. What spikes me may not spike you.
This
is just a heads up.
These
are what I tried:
