If you are like me, when you heard Paula Deen was a Type 2 Diabetic, you Googled her perscription ... Victoza. I thought it sounded very hopeful until I read the "Important Safety Information". Personally, I would have a long discussion with my doctor before taking it. Laboratory tests have shown that Victoza can cause thyroid cancer.

Some are toughting barley as the diabetic "rice". I don't know about you but just because something looks similar doesn't mean it's the same ... think of cauliflower and potatoes. That being said, I do think barley is tasty, especially in soups. You'll just have to try it and then form your own opinion.

This extreme heat here in the Midwest is melting me. I feel sluggish, tired, and generally not good. I know diabetes doesn't help the situation in my case. I've found an article from the LA Times that I think you'll find informative.

What if I have diabetes and gastroparesis?
